Council’s Cabinet Approves Local Transport Plan

East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Cabinet has today approved a new local transport plan (LTP) outlining the strategic approach the authority will take to investing in the area’s transport infrastructure over next 14 years as well as outlining a number of schemes and projects that will be delivered over the next three years. The Government requires all transport authorities outside London to produce an LTP setting out transport strategies and policies for their area and explaining how funding will be invested to improve the local transport network. The council’s transport policy team has taken the opportunity to refresh the current third LTP and to prepare a revised strategy and implementation plan, which will be formally adopted on 1 April 2015. This new plan will be known simply as the Local Transport Plan. The new LTP includes a 14-year transport strategy for the East Riding which will cover the period from 2015 to 2029. It also includes a three-year implementation plan, which sets out a programme of schemes that will be constructed between 2015 and 2018. Councillor Symon Fraser, cabinet portfolio holder for environment, housing and planning, said: “The council has an excellent track record in securing funding and delivering transport […]

DVLA overturns licence decision after pressure from local MP

A motorist who has been driving for 40 years was told by the DVLA that he didn’t have a full licence. Geoff Bullingham of Whimbrel Avenue in Hornsea strenuously disagreed and contacted his Member of Parliament, Graham Stuart. The row began after Mr Bullingham discovered that his licence was missing and sent off to DVLA for a replacement – enclosing a photocopy of the original. Mr Bullingham said “I was astonished to get a reply from DVLA to say that according to their records I didn’t have a full driving licence, only a provisional one, and they expected me to go through the time and expense of taking my driving test again. I had no idea what to do next as I was completely dumfounded. I’m really pleased I contacted Graham about this because he immediately saw my point of view and said he’d do what he could to make the DVLA see sense.” Graham said, “I met Geoff and could not believe the DVLA was insisting he didn’t have a licence when I was actually holding a copy of it in my hand. I took up the matter at Ministerial level and, after much pressure, DVLA changed its decision […]

Rob Promotes Cycle Safety In Memory Of His Brother Tim

Rob Andrew’s brother, Tim Andrew, aged 50 from Hornsea, was killed riding his bike between Hornsea and Beverley in 2010 and now Rob has spoken out to promote cycling safety and to urge road users to drive cautiously around cyclists. Speaking about his brother, Rob from Hornsea said, “Tim never passed his driving test so he cycled everywhere, ensuring his bikes were in good working order and always wearing a helmet, high-visibility clothing and lights on his bike. “Tim was on his way to work, when he was struck by a lorry from behind, he never regained consciousness from the accident and died in hospital later that day.” Last month Rob joined Graham Stuart MP on a cycle ride around Holderness to help raise awareness of the safety of cyclists on the roads. Commenting on the ride, Rob said, “Graham’s a great advocate for cycling, regularly riding around the constituency, and I wanted to use this as an opportunity to raise awareness of cyclists on the roads in the hope that no other family has to go through what we did when we lost Tim.” Speaking about cycle safety, Graham said “The main danger on the roads for cyclists is […]
