East Riding of Yorkshire Council and the group seeking to take ownership and management of Hornsea Floral Hall has successfully negotiated the transfer of the venue’s freehold from the authority who will now see the facility run by the community. The two parties have been in discussions over the past 12 months and have now finalised the outstanding administrative and legal matters and will see the day-to-day running of the Floral Hall change hands from today. Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “This is positive news for Hornsea and the wider East Riding and is testament to the hard work of council officers and the local community group. “The discussions over the transfer of the Floral Hall, in line with the cabinet’s resolution last March on the future of the building, have been extremely positive, and it has been a real pleasure to work with such an enthusiastic group of people, and we wish them every success in taking the Floral Hall forward.” Richard Carmichael, chairman of Hornsea Floral Hall, said: “It has taken us a little while in getting here but both, we and the council have achieved what we set out to [...]

As part of a campaign to improve emergency ambulance response times across his constituency, Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, Graham Stuart held a HEART Conference in Withernsea last Saturday. Named ‘Influence, Educate and Have a Go’ the aim of the event was to get members of the public to learn how they can make a difference in an emergency as well as promoting the work of Community First Responder Teams. Graham said, “Saturday’s event was so well received that people are urging me to repeat it in Beverley, Hedon and Hornsea, it was fantastic to see so many children and adults who were genuinely interested in learning how to save a life.
