East Riding of Yorkshire Council has completed – or is nearing the completion of – several new affordable housing schemes across the area. All these schemes are partly funded by the government’s Homes and Communities Agency and by the council itself. They have all been built to meet Level Three of the national Code for Sustainable Homes, and all are two-bedroomed houses. The new houses are located at: > four dwellings at Keyingham > six dwellings at Hornsea > four dwellings at Bubwith > four dwellings at Pocklington > six dwellings at Skipsea. In addition, four purpose-built flats for people with learning disabilities have just been completed in Brough. They are self contained flats, designed to allow independent living, and the new building also includes staff and communal facilities. Several more new affordable housing schemes are about to get under way, again partly funded by the Homes and Communities Agency. All will be built to meet Level Three of the national code for Sustainable Homes. These new initiatives are located at: > 48 dwellings at Pinfold Lane Bridlington – a mixture of two and three bedroomed houses > four dwellings at Leconfield – a mixture of two and three bedroomed […]

Dogs will be banned from four East Riding beaches from 1 May to make sure children, families and visitors can enjoy playing in the sand without stepping in something nasty. The ban by East Riding of Yorkshire Council will run until Tuesday, 30 September, the end of the holiday season. The four areas are Bridlington north beach from the north pier to a line extending east from Limekiln Lane, Bridlington south beach from the south pier to a line extending east from Kingston Road, Hornsea Beach and Withernsea Beach. The ban is also part of the council’s campaign to win the coveted Blue Flag Awards run by Keep Britain Tidy to those deemed to be the best bathing beaches. Dog exclusions are among the standards that must be met. Councillor Jackie Cracknell, portfolio holder for community improvement and performance, said: “Visitors love coming to our beaches. They are an important part of the economy in the area and we do all we can to inspire individuals to keep them clean. “The ban on dogs using the beaches lasts just for the summer season. The huge majority of dog owners know it makes absolute sense not to take their pets on […]Full Story »
A Hornsea resident has received a criminal record after fraudulently claiming over £20,000 in benefits. Colin Wilce, aged 65, of Marlborough Avenue, Hornsea, appeared at Hull Crown Court for sentencing on Monday, 17th March after pleading guilty to dishonestly failing to disclose information, affecting his entitlement to pension credit and council tax benefit, at an earlier hearing. The case was brought to court following an investigation by East Riding of Yorkshire Council and the Department for Work and Pensions, who discovered via a data matching exercise that Colin Wilce had failed to declare capital in excess of £140,000. Mr Colin Wilce received a six month custodial sentence, suspended for 12 months, incorporating 180 hours of unpaid work. Mr Wilce was also ordered to pay £400 towards costs. In addition, he also has to repay the £21,990.21 he fraudulently claimed between July 2010 and May 2013. Andy Hardy, the council’s fraud investigation manager, said: “The authority’s commitment to joint working continues to be effective.
