Graham Stuart Cardiac Risk in the Young Campaign

Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, Graham Stuart is supporting a campaign to raise awareness of cardiac risk in young people. Graham Stuart said, “On Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th May, young people between the age of 14 and 35 are invited to go to Hornsea School and Language College for an electrocardiogram (ECG). This is a quick and painless procedure that records the electrical activity of the heart. Places are filling up fast so please go to www.testmyheart.org to book an appointment. “I will be attending this event that has been organised by Richard and Donna Fell who tragically lost their son Josh to Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS). This is a term used to describe genetic heart rhythm abnormalities that can cause sudden death in young, apparently healthy people. Up to 600 people under the age of 30 die in the UK each year from undiagnosed cardiac failure.” Richard and Donna Fell said “The CRY (Cardiac Risk In The Young) Screening event is being held in memory of our son Josh who we lost in June 2011 aged 15. Once we found out that Josh had died from SADS we got in touch with CRY and we decided [...]

Beverley Cougars Performance Leaves Coach Ecstatic

The Beverley Cougars hoped to regain some momentum against bottom of the table team, Hornsea Lightning. The Cougars, who were returning after a long winter break, were confident that they could win, as they had defeated the Lightning in the reverse fixture. Despite having not played for over a month, the Beverley Cougars showed no signs of rustiness. Rob Brown was as sharp as ever, capitalising on Hornsea’s mistakes and scoring some easy baskets. He also set up some shooting opportunities, allowing Andrew Ladwiniec and captain, Chris Roberts to add their names to the score sheet. At the other end of the court, some tight defence resulted in the Lightning only scoring one basket in the whole quarter. This allowed the Beverley Cougars to stretch to a 19-3 lead. This form carried on into the second quarter. Brown and Roberts were at their very best again, which seemed to lift the whole team. Mark Leason led by example at the back, blocking Hornsea’s shots, not allowing them to get back into the game. The second quarter looked like it was going to end scoreless for the Lightning, but they managed to claw back two points in the last few seconds. It didn’t make much difference to the [...]
